Minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted.
The Bicentennial Committee has approximately $900 in available funds. The committee would like to use funds ($350) that were earmarked for a horse and buggy ride from the Christmas party for an event scheduled for the spring by Cultural Council. The funds will be used for the same service. The Board of Selectmen approved of the funds. The committee and Board of Selectmen came up with a couple of ideas on what to use the remaining monies on; towards a grand opening of the new Public Safety Complex and DPW building or to purchase an item to be placed in the new building.
Jean Jinks, Editor of the Tolland Tattler met with the Selectmen to discuss the Tolland Tattler. The board is looking for ways to cut costs but also increase the news that is within the paper. Jean has been asked to reduce the font size. The STRSD honor roll will be filtered to only include Tolland children. The board discussed with Jean the advertising cost increase that was voted on November 29th. The increase will remain with the exception of the ½ page being $35.
Steve spoke with Wayne to remind him on having the trees that are located on the Public Safety Complex site along Hartland Road be removed before the pre-bid meeting. Wayne stated that the trees and stumps will be removed by week out.
The board scheduled a cord wood removal day for Tolland residence. On Saturday, January 8th from 8AM to 5PM any Tolland residence interested in firewood may come to the Public Safety Complex site and pick up ONE TRUCK LOAD of cord wood.
Wayne was asked to get three quotes from abatement contractors for the removal of boards located in the boiler room at the Department of Public Works.
Received an email from David Pickhardt with comments on the condition of Moreau Road. Moreau Road is owned and maintained by the Town of Blandford. The Tolland Selectboard will write another letter to the Town of Blandford Selectboard asking to meet with them to discuss the Town of Blandford maintaining Moreau Road.
Steve and Tom felt that it should be up to the family’s discretion to place an obituary in the Tattler. The board will discuss further with a full board.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45PM
Respectfully submitted,
